(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Despite cool temperatures and off and on rain, about 20 kids still braved the elements to swim for the first time this summer.

The St. Joseph Aquatic Park will be closed tomorrow for high school graduations but will re-open Monday for the remainder of the summer.

The kids that came out to enjoy the pool say the water was cold, but that didn't stop them from having fun.

A lifeguard shortage is delaying the opening of the two other public pools in town.

The City Council voted to raise the pay for lifeguards to $9 an hour in hopes of attracting more workers.
