(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A different kind of work took place on a city street in downtown St. Joseph Wednesday.

An artist spent the day painting a mural on a traffic box at the corner of 4th and Felix Streets.

The Allied Arts Council selected Justin Border's design for the second public art project. His creation is based on a diagram of the Missouri River flood plains dating back to the 1930s. It also includes a stylized map of St. Joseph.

Border came up from Overland Park to take on the project.

"I like the idea of public art and bringing art out in the open instead of having it in a museum or art gallery all the time," he said.

Border used 11 different colors for the latest traffic box art. The first project like this was completed in late 2012.
