(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A pair of St. Joseph students have earned the opportunity to share their musical talents on a national level.

Central High School's Elizabeth Goller, a senior, and Gene Hayes, a junior, have been recognized by the National Association for Music Education Honor Ensembles.

Goller joins the 2013 All-National Honor Choir. Hayes was selected as a member of the 2013 All-National Concert Band.

CHS Band Director Roy Maxwell said the students are the first from Central to earn such recognition.

"This is a prestigious honor that reflects their talent, hard work and commitment. This is an outstanding accomplishment," he said in a news release.

Goller and Hayes had to submit a two-minute video audition and recommendation letters to qualify. They were selected by a committee of music educators from across the country.

Both students will perform at the National Association for Music Education conference in Nashville this fall.
