(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Guilt is probably setting in from all those holiday sweets, but help is around the corner.

The annual Pound Plunge kicks off next week in St. Joseph.

Heartland Health and K-JO 105.5 teamed up again this year to help people meet their weight loss goals.

Participants can sign up on their own or with a team. They will weigh in weekly and have a shot a prizes.

Organizers hope the community can meet a 10-thousand pound weight loss goal this year. They will push everyone to shed weight and make a lifestyle change.

"The importance of it is not about fitting into swimsuits or how you look, it's really about keeping your heart and organs inside healthy so that you can live as long and as healthily and full of life and meaning as you can," said Dr. Jane Schwabe.

The registration deadline is Sunday, Jan. 5. The first weigh in will be at the St. Joseph REC Center on Tuesday Jan. 7.
