(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) This is a peak time for energy usage, but, KCP&L says there are ways to cut back and save.

Tips include drawing your shades to keep the sun out.  Using fans to circulate air around your home rather than putting them directly on you.  Reserve tasks like cooking and laundry for the morning and late evening when it's cooler.  And when you do cook, try to use the microwave instead of the stove.  It uses less energy and keeps your home cooler.  Also - make sure your a/c is in good shape.

"To look over your air conditioner and make sure there's no debris in it, to make sure the filters are cleaned is always a good idea.  We all may think we're too busy to do that but it really only takes a few minutes to take care of that simple measure, to reduce your energy usage as well as keep your home cooler," said Dan Hegeman of KCP&L.
