(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A local library will soon begin a project to grab the names of every soldier from northwest Missouri to serve in World War II.

The Northwest Missouri Genealogical Society is searching for family members of veterans to submit information and portraits.

Organizers say they were inspired by a 1944 article that listed nearly 7,000 Buchanan County veterans' names.

"Most of them have passed away and we want to find the ones that are left but we also want to find their descendants and we want to preserve the information for the future generations," Kelly Alvarado, President of the society said.

Anyone that would like to contribute information can find details by clicking this link.

The society hopes to have the project completed by next fall, then publish a book with all the collected material.
