The company announced Wednesday, it will extend terms of the Missouri Cold Weather Rule through April.
The rule, which enables customers to continue or restore gas service by making an initial payment, usually expires at the end of March. Customers who have service restored or extended through the rule must begin a 12-month payment plan after the initial payment.
"We know that some customers are struggling this year after the unusually harsh winter. And we are always looking for ways to help our customers. By choosing to extend Missouri's Cold Weather Rule past March, customers on fixed incomes can spread these costs over a longer period of time," said Ron Crow, vice president of Customer Experience for Missouri Gas Energy, in a press release.
According to a press release from the utility provider, energy demand was up 27 percent over average winters this year.
