Tuesday, September 17 is Constitution Day. So, Missouri Western State University hosted a free event on campus, specifically focusing on the 14th amendment.
Professors in the political science department discussed the contemporary meaning of the amendment, including how it applies to voter ID laws and same-sex marriage.
"It helps students understand some of the core questions in the Consitituion, helps them understand the debates that are driving American politics, and how the courts will need to think about those debates in order to resolve them," said Dr. Edwin Taylor, MWSU.
The signing of the Constitution took place on this day in 1787.
