(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Founded in St. Joseph, MoDocs has a foundation of medical and legal professionals that work with the needs of doctors.

"We have a unique company in that we blend medicine and the law to defend physicians.  Quite often physicians are involved in frivolous lawsuits and we give them an alternative, we defend them, give them a maximal defense," said Medical Division Director James Conant.

Just 10 years ago, doctors were actually leaving Missouri due to unaffordable insurance but MoDocs has helped reverse this.

"We helped to keep doctors in Missouri and then also we've been a good thriving business for St. Joseph.  We employ 20 people and we add to the local economy," said Board Chair Rob Schaaf.

A tv show called Moving America Forward sought out MoDocs in order to award them for the work they've done.

"They awarded us this award because of the work we did with doctors in Missouri providing them with medical liability insurance when they couldn't get it at affordable rates," said MoDocs President Martin Bauman.

There are other criteria that had to be met as well.

"For this particular award it has to be a start up by an entrepreneur.  In other words, national corporations and big companies are not involved and it has to do something to help America," said Bauman

After all of their time and hard work, the award still came as a surprise.

"We were very proud.  I didn't know how they ever found out about us, but they did.  And we're a well recognized company in Missouri.  We pride ourselves on the quality of our representation," said Bauman.

MoDocs plans to continue helping Missouri doctors so that they can work while knowing that someone is on their side.

"It's really important that they have the security of knowing that they're not in this legal battle by themselves," said Conant.

Martin Bauman received the award during a taping of Moving America Forward.

The episode will air this fall.
