Bill West of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Heartland Hospital.

Bill was born to Nola and Glades West of DeKalb, MO on December 21, 1928.

Bill graduated from Benton high school class of 1947, He lettered in football, 3 years and track 4 years. He was very proud of his school and attended all of his class reunions. One of his fondest memories was going to the 1947 Peanut Bowl in Columbus, GA with his teammates and the great coach "Pop" Springer.

On June 3, 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Halpain and she survives of the home.

Bill was an accomplished commercial artist beginning his career at the young age of 19 with the Artcraft Engraving CO. During his years with Artcraft, he designed the logo for the International Oil Additive company STP. The wanted something simple, that made a statement, after that the rest is history. He also did work for companies such as Cherry Mash and Westab for which he designed the cover of one of the "Big Chief Tablets". Bill then furthered his career at Fletcher Mayo Advertising Co., of St. Joseph, MO. While there he did advertising works for several companies such as Anchor Serum, Ralston Purina, Agrilabs, Eli Lilly Co. Smith Cline Animal Heath, Shell Oil, Elanco, Grey Mfg., MNX and Farmland CO-OP among many others. In the 1980's Bill began his independent career known as "Bill West Art". During this time he was commissioned to do the 1st Trails West Logo. Bill was member of Duck's Unlimited of which he donated a wildlife painting every year to help support the preservation of our nations wetlands. He was also a member of the Midwest Artist's Association and Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art where he was awarded many ribbons for his paintings. Among his many achievements, Bill, being a "History Buff", he was commissioned by the several St. Joseph Business' and Missouri Western State University to do 14 historical paintings for the Remington Nature Center, which are on display in the conference room there.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randy West, and a brother, Charles West.

Survivors include wife, Darlene West of the home, daughter, Rhonda Fitzmaurice, two sons, Mark and Scott West, daughter in law, Cheryl West all of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Amy (Grover) Musser, Whitney West, Brandon (Jill) West, Shannon White and Chad West, great grandchildren, Paige & Cade Musser, Tory Foulk, Tyler White, Courtney, Cameron & Ashlyn West, Heather Reno, and sister-in-law, Betty West of Parkville, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Pastor Quentin Vaughn officiating. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
