Bill Chaney, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 14, 1926 to James and Grace (Lederer) Chaney.

He married Bettilou Reichman in 1949.  Two children were born to that union, William “Preston” and Rachel LuAnne.  Bill and Bettilou were married for 33 years before her death in 1982.  He later married Peggy Horseman in 1987 and she preceded him in death in 2007.

Bill graduated from Nieve, High Prairie, Delia High School and McWilliams Mortuary School, Kansas City, Kansas.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Olmstead during WWII.  Bill was an embalmer for 30 years at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory and also Clark Sampson Funeral Home and later worked at St. Joseph Memorial Park for 15 years as Family Service Supervisor.

Bill was a member of the King Hill Lodge No. 376, A.F.& A.M.; King Hill Chapter No. 147, R.A.M.; Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Moila Shrine; Hyde Valley United Methodist Church; Southside Lions Club since 1950; Lake County Improvement Association; Southside Progressive Association, and Pony Express Post #359, American Legion #359.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lila Pearl Chaney and Henry Glen Chaney.

Survivors: his children, William “Preston” Chaney and LuAnne (Dan) Garvin and grandchildren, Claire Frances Garvin, Patrick Preston (Aubrey) Garvin, and Rachel Lauren Chaney.

Services:  3:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
