Carl V. Steidel 88, of Merriam Village, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, MO passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at a health care center in Forsyth, MO.

He was born November 22, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Ada and George Steidel.

He attended Lafayette high school, then joined the Marines in 1944. In 1946 Corporal Steidel served in WWII and advanced to the rank of Sargent in Radio Communications in the 5th 105 Howitzer Batallion. He went to Pearl Harbor VMR 952 as transport Squadron Airborne Operator. During the Korean War he served with the 7th Tank Communications section. Sharp Shooter, American Theater, Good Conduct, and Asiatic Medal for overseas were honors bestowed upon Carl during his years of service. He retired from Burlington Northern following 38 years of service as a Conductor. He was a member of the Merriam Woods betterment association, Am Vets of Merriam Woods, he enjoyed fishing, rose gardening, and vegetable gardening, and boating. Carl was proud that he was baptized at the Copeland Baptist Church.

Carl was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Mae Steidel, his parents, a grandson, Gary E. Decker, a great grandson Stephen Lance, a brother, Albert Steidel, and a sister, Selma Bundridge.

Survivors include, daughter, Kelly (Dan) Berry of Rushville, MO, son, Thomas (Sarah) Steidel of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Marilyn Decker of Savannah, MO, grandchildren, Kim George, Brenda Lotz, Elizabeth Steidel, Shelly (Ernie) Lance, and Christina (Darrick) Conkling, two brother, Norman Steidel and George Steidel, a sister, Virginia Sue Hudson of Bella Vista, Ark, and his beloved Shelty dog, Hannah Mae.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to the Carl V. Steidel Memorial fund in care of the Rupp Funeral Home.
