Charles, “Chuck”, Paul, 94, Saint Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Sioux City, passed away April 23, 2014 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home.
Services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph, Missouri. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
Chuck was born October 23, 1919 in Wakefield, Nebraska to Edward and Grace Paul. He attended school in Wakefield and then moved to Sioux City, Iowa where he was in the A & P Grocery business and received education in business administration. Mr. Paul was in Air Force Operations in Denver, Colorado and Tampa, Florida. He was assigned to the 391st Bomb Group as Sgt. Major. They were the B-26 bombers that saw much action during the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
On September 19, 1946, he married Mildred Holt at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Charles was manager of the A & P Grocery Store in Sioux City for many years. Mr. Paul was a master Mason of Triangle Lodge in Sioux City. In 1966, he was transferred to Maryville, Missouri with A & P and in 1973 was transferred and became manager of the A & P Grocery Store in St. Joseph, Missouri. He and his wife were members of Ashland United Methodist Church. He continued to be involved with the Masonic Lodge No. 376, A.F. & A.M and was a member for 53 years. Charles was a member of the High Twelve Club. After retiring in 1983, Charles and his wife were members with The Good Sam’s Club and the couple enjoyed traveling in their travel trailer throughout United States. They spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas as snowbirds of the Rio Grande Valley. Charles enjoyed woodworking and carving and taught classes in this area in Texas. Many people were the lucky recipients of receiving gifts of his carvings. He enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren.
Survivors are: son, Richard Paul and his wife, Lynn of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter, Gena Aalbers and husband Mike of Alton; grandchildren, Brian (Inga) Paul, Kansas City, Kansas, Melissa (Josh) Bright, Overland Park, Kansas; Barry Paul (Courtney Dunn), Olathe, Kansas; Mitch (Monica) Aalbers, Orange City; Breanne (Curt) Niebuhr, Olathe, Kansas, and Jessica (Eric) Vande Hoef, Sioux Center; and 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Eugene and Robert of Wakefield, Nebraska.
