Darlyne (Overstreet) Sears, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, May 16, 2014 at her home.
She was born November 21, 1921 to Johnson and Hazel (Horner) Overstreet. Darlyne’s mother passed away when she was only three days old and was raised by her maternal grandmother, Ella Horner
At the age of 15 Darlyne accepted Christ as her Savior. Darlyne married Stockwell Sears on August 22, 1940 at Copeland Baptist Church. She later attended South Baptist Theological Siminary in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1943 Darlyne and Stockwell where appointed as missionaries to China by the Foreign Mission Board, SBC Wartime. They spent two years studying Chinese as the University of California in Berkeley, California.
Darlyne and Stockwell adopted two children in 1960, Mary Annetta and Richard Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Richard Sears; and Child-in-the-Lord, Rev. John Lim.
Survivors: daughter, Mary Easter (William), Sulligent, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Carol Sears; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; Children-in-the-Lord, Barbara Lim and family in California, Dr. Samuel and Esther Wu and family in Virginia, Lillian and Tjok-T-jheuw “Sugiarta” Thong, Surabaya, Indonesia, Chow Yew Fook family, Penang, Malaysia, and Prem Kumar family, Penang, Malaysia; and several great-grandchildren.
Services: 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Monday. Flowers are appreciated and for those wishing to make a contribution, the family requests they be made to Copeland Baptist Church.
