He was born September 9, 1934 in St. Joseph, Missouri son of Josephine (Holzhauzer) & Norman Reed Russell.
He served in the United States Army, then worked for the city of St. Joseph, the Russell Construction Company he also was a commercial fisherman, and a Millright now retired from the Carpenter's Union. His passions were hunting, fishing on the river, running his nets and working on and driving his number 4F racecar.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jimmy, Mike, and Bill Russell, two former wives Janet Russell, and Annette.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary (Donnie) Burkert of Savannah, MO, two sons, Keith Russell, and Donald E. (Robin) Russell Jr. all of St. Joseph, MO, his 1st wife and mother of their children, Mary. Seven grandchildren, nine, great grandchildren, five brothers: Ray (Sheryl) Russell, John (Irma) Russell, Sherrill (Penny) Russell, Tim (Vickie) Russell, and Joseph (Kim) Russell, three sisters; Peggy Bryson, Linda (Dave) Clark, and Sally (Bill) Hubbard.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena, KS. He has been cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.
