Esther was born on April 22nd, 1930 to Oscar and Matilda (Boeh) Kaelin.
She was the youngest of ten children and a graduate of Wathena High School. On December 31st, 1949 Esther married John Shuster who survives of the home.
Esther was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Women’s Council, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was dedicated to making a wonderful home for her family, highlighted by her marvelous cooking talent, most of which was her ability to make excellent pies and cakes. Anyone who was fortunate enough to taste her deserts would tell you they were “a little slice of heaven”. Esther loved flowers and certainly had a green thumb. She enjoyed working with her brother Fred and succeeding owners at the local fruit/flower market for well over 30 years. Also from November through March Madness she was an avid Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan.
She is preceded in death by her son Darwin, her parents, and siblings Freda Rice, Louis, Fred, Lamonte, Anthony, Kenneth, Josephine, and Kathleen Kaelin.
The memory of Esther’s life will be cherished by her loved ones including her husband John, sister Lucile Lipira, and children Deborah Byrne (James)of Blue Springs, MO, Michael Shuster of Wathena, KS, Shelly Vertin (John) of Wathena, KS, and John Shuster Jr. of Deer Park, IL. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Bridget, Shannon, Rory, Courtney, Sawyer, Lillian, Savannah, Avery, Kendall, and Peyton. She was known as “Gigi” by her great-grandchildren Kaelin, Charlee, and Cruz. Her many nieces and nephews were also an important part of Esther’s life.

At the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wathena, Kansas
Rosary 6:00 P.M. Monday evening at the church with visitation to follow until 8:00, friends may call after 9 A.M. Monday at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena.
Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wathena
Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for altar flowers.
