He was born March 27, 1940 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Julia and Walter Hogan.
He graduated from Benton high school class of 1958. On June 25, 1985 Gary married Sandra Farris and she survives of the Home. Gary was a retired meat cutter working at Armour & Co., Hy-Klas Beaty's Grocery Store #39 and the Apple Market. He was a member of the Meat Cutters union, as well as the King Hill Lodge #376 AF&AM, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, the Moila Shrine, and the Moila Shrine Diplomats, he was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Gary was preceded in death by his father Walter J. Hogan.
Survivors include, wife, Sandra Hogan of the home, mother, Julia Belle Hogan of St. Joseph, MO, son, Jay Hogan and wife Tammy, two daughters, Julia Chambers and husband Doug, Kim Thompson and husband Kenny all of St. Joseph, MO, and a son, Sgt. Scott Smith and wife Sondraof Colorado Springs, CO, , and eight grandchildren, Brian Lawson, Emily Hogan, Paden Chambers, Taylor Thompson, Reagan Thompson., Amity, Axton and Adian Smith, and his beloved two dogs; Maggie & Dixie.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 am, on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. James Barnett and Rev. Darwin St. Myers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
Memorials are requested to the Moila Shrine Children's Transportation Fund.
