Gloria June (Neff) Cowart, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, March 6, 2014 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s Disease.
June was born on March 31, 1934 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Paul and Ethel (Overman) Neff.
She attended Lafayette High School.
She worked as a beautician for 40 years and owned and operated June’s Beauty Shop for 20 years until retirement.
June was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel (Overman) Quigley and step-father, Kenneth Quigley.
She was previously married to Kenneth Eugene Cowart from 1950 to 1970. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Surviving family includes sons, Kenny (Patti) Cowart, Burton, South Carolina; and Kevin (Shana) Cowart, Olathe, KS; daughters, Cyndi Dewey, Faucett, MO; and Glenda Alexander, St. Joseph, MO; 9 grandchildren, Dean, Kelli, Brad, Trent, Cristie, Craig, K.C., Kortni and Kirstin, 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Beverly Hellerich, St. Joseph, MO.
June was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved to spend time with family. She enjoyed baking pies and her days out with her sister Bev. June loved to tend to her garden, especially her red roses and loved caring for her pets.
June received excellent care from her second family at Saxton’s Health Care Inn and Hands of Hope Hospice.
Celebration of Life 7:00 PM Monday, March 10, 2014 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Monday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the service.
