He was born June 5, 1934 in Halls, MO, son of Beatrice and Robert J. Matthews.
He worked at Monty's Tavern, Dugdale meat packing, and retired as a truck driver from Peach Tree Door. He enjoyed fishing, liked to work at Lake Contrary as security, and boating, he was a Baptist.
Harold was preceded in death by former wife, Beverly Ardrey, his parents, a son, James "Jim" Matthews, two brothers, James and Ronald Matthews, three sisters, Doris Judah, Patsy Horine, and Ila Fauver.
Survivors include, daughter, Carol (Bobby) Hall of Wathena, KS, two sons, Rodney (Cheryl) Matthews of Faucett, MO, and Harold Dean Matthews Jr. of Wathena, KS, a granddaughter, Amber Murphy, three grandsons, Jimmy Matthews, Bryant Hall, and Myles Matthews, five great grandchildren, Kyson, Kendal, Landon, Kreedon, and Arleigh, a brother, Lawrence (Shirley) Matthews of Halls, MO, two sisters, Shirley (Larry) Wescott of Santa Maria, CA, and Areitta (Jerry) Agee of Broken Arrow, OK.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Steele, and Rev. Bob Myers officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
The Interment will be at the Armstrong Cemetery.
