Helen E. Woods, 110, St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at a local health facility.
Helen was born in St. Joseph on January 25, 1904, the only child of Charles and Anna (Burgess) Tramp. Her parents preceded her in death.
Following her graduation from Benton High School in 1922, Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Lamborn, Murray and Davis Livestock Commission Company. She retired in 1968 after 40 years of service.
Helen married Henry Edwin Woods on July 30, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. They resided in St. Joseph. Mr. Woods died June 19, 1958.
A member of Christ Episcopal Church, she was active in the Amy Golding Guild. She was a member of Areme Chapter of Eastern Star (awarded a 50 year pin in 2014), the Social Order of Beauceant (Masonic Order of Women), and Needles Buffs of Moila.
Helen was an amazing woman. Traveling, sewing, crafts, crocheting, and quilting were a few of the hobbies she enjoyed during her 110 years. Her strong faith and positive outlook made her a joy to be around.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.
Survivors: nieces, Betty Reynolds (Neil) and Deanna Gibson, St. Joseph, Missouri; her caregiver and neighbor, Joyce Edwards; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, Christ Episcopal Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Helen’s loved ones would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Saxton Woods.
