L. Jean Cox, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center after battling an illness for several years.

Jean was born August 2, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas, the second daughter of Arthur W. and M. Pearl (Waller) Lizar. As a young child, she moved with her family to Missouri and lived most of her life in Stewartsville where she became a member of the Stewartsville Presbyterian-Christian Church. She was also an artist, master gardener and an extraordinary cook.

She moved to St. Joseph after graduating from Stewartsville High School and was homecoming queen her junior year. She was a cheerleader and played on the basketball team for four years before graduating in 1961. She worked at the American National Bank for two years. She married Robert Lee Craig, Jr. and her two children were born of the union. She began a career at the St. Joseph Light & Power Company as executive assistant to two presidents retiring after thirty-three years. She later worked in the same capacity for the City Manager of St. Joseph.  During her career, she was a member of Professional Secretaries, Inc. and Women’s Career Network where she served on both boards and numerous committees.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Robert C. Kimes; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors: daughter, Lisa J. Craig Bone and husband James, Gladstone, Missouri; son, Daniel L. Craig and wife Terri, St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren, Morgan Scheib and husband Josh, Jakob Allen, Leah Craig and Trevor Bone; two great-granddaughters, Ainsley and Riley Scheib; two sisters; Karen Pickett and husband Eddie, Stewartsville, Missouri and Mary Kimes, Belton, Missouri; six nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Memorial Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated or the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Safe Place for Kids, Inc., 5510 NE Antioch Rd #193, Kansas City, MO 64119.
