LaVon Lotz, 93, St. Joseph, MO

LaVon Lotz, 93, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at a local hospital.

LaVon was born October 3, 1920 to Walter and Emma (Spillman) McGuire in St. Joseph. She attended Benton High School and later graduated from Platte Business College as a bookkeeper. On July 5, 1941, she married James Lotz in Faucett, MO, whom she shared over 50 years of marriage with before his passing. She was blessed by the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in 1957. LaVon worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses and retired from Farmers Equipment Company as office manager. LaVon loved to sew, which she used her talent working for several local companies and also belonged to area sewing clubs. She also loved traveling and was a member of the Good Sam’s Club. Her other hobbies included bowling and fishing.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband James in 1998; brother, Walter McGuire Jr. and sister Betty Dymond; and grandson Christopher Stehle.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie (Jerry) Stehle, of St. Joseph and Terri (Galen) Sadler of Florida; sister, Rosemary Jackson of Florida; three grandchildren, Julie (Patrick) Houser, of St. Joseph, Brett and Brian Sadler, both of Florida; three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Mid America Chapter.
