Lawrence Dent Morriss (Dent), 80, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family July 4, 2014.

Dent was born in Springfield, Missouri July 16, 1933. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Missouri from the age 11 until the time of his passing, and always loved living in St. Joseph.

He graduated from Central High School in 1951, attended University of Missouri – Columbia of which he remained a lifelong fan, and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University of Maryville, Missouri.

Dent proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received his CPA certificate in 1962, and was one of the founders of Larson, Morriss and Company of St. Joseph, Missouri. Dent joined Clifton Gunderson and Company in 1978 as the first partner in charge of their St. Joseph location. He retired in 1999 from Clifton Gunderson and Company and continued to be a part business owner of Specialized Support services until the time of his passing.

He became a Christian and was baptized when he was 47 years old. He was very involved in his churches, Patee Baptist and Wyatt Park Baptist and was a beloved Sunday school teacher for many years until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He co-founded St. Joseph Bantam League Football and was a longtime head coach of the Lover’s Lane Packers and won several championships.

Dent had many friends. He loved to laugh and to make people laugh and had a funny quick sense of humor. Dent adored his family and loved them all unconditionally. He will be extremely and greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Goldie McCullough and Harold Lawrence Morriss; and stepdaughters, Elizabeth and Mary Andres.   Survivors: wife, Janice Morriss of 42 years; daughters, Hallie Morriss-Thompson (Eric), St. Joseph, Missouri, Lisa Morriss-Sherry (Danny), Leawood, Kansas; son, Lawrence Morriss, Jr. (Jane), Leawood, Kansas; step-son, Joseph “Bernard” Andres, Franklin, Tennesee; grandchildren, Grace, Calvin and Blakeley Thompson, Jason, Sam and Jenny Sherry, Megan, Andrew and Katherine Morriss, Joshua Andres, Tiffany Ueligger, Nathan Johnson and Audrey Daugherity; great-grandchildren, Zayden and Bria Johnson, Luke and Victoria Andres; and brother, Don Morriss (Donna), Irving, Texas.

Services:  3:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 8 at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
