Leon Hitchings, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 18, 1927 to Buford and Alta (Wagonblast) Hitchings.

He proudly served in the Army during WWII.  He was a farmer his entire life and still continued to do in his later years.  His favorite time of year was the harvest, running the combine.  Leon was a member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church since 1954.  He served on the Pickett School and MFA Advisory boards, as well as the ASCS County Committee, and was a member of 4H.

Mr. Hitchings was a member of the Saxton Lodge No. 508, A.F. & A.M., Thirty-second Degree Scottish Rite Mason; and Moila Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Eunice Hollaway.

Survivors: wife of 65 years Billye; sons, Roger Hitchings and Ron Hitchings (Pam); grandchildren, Ron Hitchings Jr. and Rhanda Shreve (Roger); great-grandchildren, C.J. and Tyler Hitchings and Carter and Hadlee Shreve; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services:  10:00 A.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Blakely Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M.
