Margaret LaRue (Curry) Corken, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, March 28, 2014 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born October 11, 1928 to James and Lennie (LaRue) Curry in Wellington, Kansas.
She married Jack Corken on February 6, 1954. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2011.
Margaret was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church, PEO Sisterhood Chapter FL and a past PTA President. Margaret was a kindergarten teacher for several years, a Girl Scout leader in St. Joseph and a Girl Scout Board member. She was regarded for her creativity, generosity, and numerous volunteer activities related to children’s education. She was the first homecoming queen at Northwest Missouri State University.
Mrs. Corken was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dr. James Curry.
Survivors: daughters, Amy Welch (Stan), Overland Park, Kansas, Ann Mackey (Denis), Kansas City, Missouri, Alison Copeland (Bill), Columbia, Missouri and Angie Giddens (Tim), Gladstone, Missouri; son, Andy Corken, Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, Nicholas Welch (Katie), Kate Welch, Kyle Giddens, Andrew Copeland and Sydney Copeland; great-grandson, Judah Welch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Monday.
