Mary E. (Soper) Powers, 97, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, June 16, 2014 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born April 28, 1917 to Donald and Alice (Gartland) Soper in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mary married Harry Joseph Powers on November 10, 1939. He survives of the home.
She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church; St. Anne’s Altar Society and had served as a Sacristan at the church for many years, a Convent of the Sacred Heart Alumnae, and the Midland Empire Girl Scouts Council, where she was active for sixty years and was the First Golden Eaglet Scout in St. Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Donald F. Soper, J.W. “Bill” Soper and Robert J. Soper; sons-in-law, Robert Nurski and Bill Kirschbaum.
Additional Survivors: Mary Pat Nurski of St. Joseph; Donna L. Kirschbaum of Poway, California; Teresa L. Scheopner and her husband, David of Greeley, Colorado; Michael J. Powers and his wife Mary of St. Joseph; Laura C. Powers of the home; and Maureen A. Cummings and her husband, Richard of Janesville, Wisconsin; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Friday, St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery. Parish Rosary 6:30 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Thursday.
