Mary Jo Byrne passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Mary Jo was born November 23, 1946 to “Jack” and “Peg” Byrne.
Born with Cerebral Palsy, her 1st five years kept her confined to a leg brace, which she learned to endure.
Through her grade school days at Co-Cathedral, she looked forward to going to the “Convent”.
After learning of the “Convent” closing, Mary Jo, of course, chose the new Bishop LeBlond, she endured.
Mary Jo earned a B.S. in elementary education from Mount St. Scholastica and an M.S. from Avila.
To give back to other handicapped, she majored in Speech Therapy. She endured.
She began her teaching career at Humboldt Elementary in St. Joseph. A calling by a higher voice took her to Limon, Colorado and Mission, South Dakota. Returning to St. Joseph, she taught at Union Star until her retirement. She then went to work for UCP of St. Joseph, where she was equally loved by all staff and patrons. She endured.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Katie, and is survived by three loving
brothers, Tom, Pat and John. Also three nephews,Tim, Nathan and Kellen. There are two nieces, Michelle and Jacy.
Memorial services 11 am, Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
