Melvin Wiley Stockett, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, January 31, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 1, 1943 to Wiley and Florence (Walston) Stockett in Payson, Utah.
He married Kathy Ritchey on September 5, 1992. She survives of the home.
Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed learning about genealogy and loved his grandchildren and telling corny jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Stockett; sister, Nell Little; and granddaughter, Ashley Rumbo.
Additional Survivors: daughters, Jennifer Lower (Wayne), Three Forks, Montana, Holly Hoeger (Steve), Platte City, Missouri, Diedra Summers (Brad), St. Joseph, Missouri and Summer Hughes (Lance), St. Joseph, Missouri; sons, Samuel Stockett (Niki), Sheridan, Montana, Jonathan Stockett (Sarah), St. Joseph, Missouri and Schuyler Morton (Ericka), Kansas City, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Jerry (Victoria), Don (Linda) and Fred (Lorna) Stockett; and sisters, June Kerby (Tom) and Mary Eddenfield (Leroy).
Services: 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Mr. Stockett will be removed from Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.
