Phyllis Jean Thornton, 81, Uniontown, Ohio died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Akron City hospital, Akron, Ohio.
She was born September 15, 1932 to Lewie Lee and Helen Lourine (Jones) Newby in Pattonsburg, Missouri.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling, reading, shopping and her trips to the casino.
Mrs. Thornton was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was active in the Ladies Day Card Club and Needles Moila. She worked at Hirsch’s clothing store and Hallmark store.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Richard G. Thornton; daughter, Pamela Thornton; and daughter-in-law, Jean Thornton.
Survivors: daughter, Brenda Karder (Roger) of North Canton, Ohio; son, Mike Thornton (Sharon) of Savannah, Missouri; three grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Wesley United Methodist Church. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
