Reverend Calvin Crump, age 90

The Reverend Calvin Crump, age 90, went home to be with his Lord on August 18, 2014 after a brief illness. Reverend Cooper was the Associate Pastor of Grassland Heights Baptist Church in Franklin, Tennessee from 1994 to the present. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Hogan Cooper; his father and mother, F.M. and Frances Cooper of Memphis, Tennessee; his brother, James Cooper; and sister, Evelyn Cooper.

Calvin graduated from Central High School in 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee and joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943. He served as a navigator and radar operator on a P-61 night fighter in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946, graduated from Union University, Jackson, Tennessee in 1949 and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminarian in Berkeley, California in 1952. On December 31, 1947 Brother Cal was ordained into the Ministry of the Gospel by Bellevue Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee. From 1947 to 1954, he planted and pastored churches in te San Francisco Bay Area, In 1954, he entered the Air Force Chaplain Corps where he served for 23 years, retiring as a full Colonel. In retirement, he earned his Doctor of Education Degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He then served as Chaplain of Addiction Treatment programs at Alvin C. York and Middle Tennessee Medical Center of Murfreesboro for 15 years.

Reverend Cooper is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Cooper of Franklin, Tennessee; daughters, Kathleen Cmap of Allen, Texas, Glenda Hamilton of St. Joseph, Missouri and Sharon Knutter of Nashville, Tennessee; son, Timothy C. Cooper of Campbell, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Cooper of Franklin, Tennessee.
