Samuel “Sam” J. Greco, 77, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Kansas City, MO.

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2014, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors, will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the Greco family.

Sam was born January 22, 1937 in Omaha, NE to Joseph and Elsie Emarene (Barrett) Greco.

Sam served his country in the U.S. Navy. He lived in the Independence, MO area most of his life, and worked as a machinist, fabricating parts for Compressor Parts & Components of K.C., MO. Sam was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Independence; and 4th degree member, and Clown Club member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member and judge for the K.C. Barbeque Society, as well as a Reserve Officer for the Jackson County Sheriff Patrol. Sam loved his family, and took an active role in coaching little league and women’s softball; and served as Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts, where he was a member or the Order of Arrow.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Julie; his sister Joanne Strobel; and an infant sister.

Sam is survived by: his first wife Madonna; his sons Andy Greco of Grain Valley, MO, and Joseph (Jackie) Greco of Independence; his daughters Kim (James) Yates, Pamela Braly, and Julia Greco, all of Independence; his brothers Charles (Marlene) Greco of Charlotte, NC and James (Linda) Greco of Rowlett, TX; his sister Rosallie (Moritz) Moeller of Menifee, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
