(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Although we're still in July, Operation Christmas Child is hard at work.  A project that is necessary for Ben Hardy to become an eagle scout has transformed into something bigger.  Ben, American Heritage Girls, and parents gathered to sort collected items to send to third world countries.  A goal to collect 1200 items has been exceeded and they will continue to exceed that goal as they have collected an extra $250.

"I kind of fell in love with Operation Christmas Child and I thought this would be the perfect project to do something meaningful that I could use to help out the world and not just my community," said Operation Christmas Child Coordinator Ben Hardy.

A packing party will take place in the fall.  Items such as clothes, school supplies, toiletries, and toys will be packed into shoe boxes and then sent to third world countries.
