(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph man, at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, celebrated more than a century of life.

Elmer Steltenpohl, who's been a resident since 2006, stayed up until midnight just to bring in his 101st birthday.

Other residents and employees gathered to sing happy birthday, enjoy cake, and share this special moment with their long-time friend.

"I'm privileged to have the opportunity to work with people like Elmer. He's funny, he likes to joke around, dance and laugh. It's good for the residents to see that life does continue past 90, 100, and now 101," said Tammy Douglas.

"It's hard to imagine what 101 years would be like, but I hope if I get there, it's like Elmer," said Dough Henry.

LaVerna Village said Steltenpohl is part of the building and a true joy to have around.
