Adventure League Makes Splash at Lake Viking

(LAKE VIKING, Mo.) Ordinarily, Lake Viking is a quiet, peaceful lake community. But, Saturday afternoon it was overtaken with excitement.

The Adventure League was there and they were living up to their name.

Adventure League hit the lake for an action packed afternoon on jet ski's, water ski's, rafts and more. Adventurers ages 7-65 took turns riding the waves.

"It was cool and this kid I shared with went like five times, but i went seven times," Elliott Murphy said.

Elliott's only 8 years old, but he's already used to life in the fast lane.

Like the other adventurers, Elliott has a little bit of a challenge. He's in a wheelchair, but that doesn't slow him down.

Midwest Adaptive Sports and Adventure League volunteers make it possible for everyone to get in on the action.

"Adventure League is a non-competitive sports organization where we feel like we can adapt activities to the needs of any individual," Stan Weston with Adventure League said.

Jason Myers has been in a wheelchair for two and a half years, and still maintains a full sports schedule.

"Can't stop living life, gotta keep going, whether it scares mom or not, gotta keep going," Myers said.

"Seems like here in the past few months, I've gotten to do a little bit of everything, so hopefully we'll go onto basketball and maybe skydiving next, you never know."

Adventure league is open to anyone in need of any type of assistance.

"One of the things you find out when you work with somebody with special needs is that they just want to do the same things that everybody else gets to and that's what we're doing today, doing the same things that everybody else does," Weston said.

Adventure League and Midwest Adaptive Sports welcome new participants and volunteers. They can modify just about any adventure for any special need.
