United Way Calls for Volunteers, Books

The United Way of St. Joseph is calling for volunteers to read to children in area schools this summer.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The United Way of St. Joseph is calling for volunteers to read to children in area schools this summer.

The United Way Reading Adventure is a partnership with the St. Joseph School District Summer Explorers Childcare program to connect volunteers with children in the program. The goal is to help students maintain reading skills over the summer.

Volunteers will visit one of several schools in the district once a week for one hour during the month of July.

Students in the program also receive books throughout the summer to encourage reading at home. Books for children ages 6 through 12 are also needed.

Anyone interested can contact Jodi Bloemker at 364-2381 or jodi.bloemker@stjosephunitedway.org.
