First Blast of Earhart Bridge Demo Set for Monday

After a few schedule changes, the first of three blasts that will bring down the old Amelia Earhart bridge is on for Monday.
(ATCHISON, Kan.) After a few schedule changes, the first of three blasts that will bring down the old Amelia Earhart bridge is on for Monday.

The high truss steel across the entire bridge will come down Oct. 7 around 9 a.m. The second blast is set for Oct 11 and the final blast is scheduled for Oct. 28.

Public viewings of all three blasts are still welcome. The demolition can be seen from the Riverside Park area off River Road.

Public access is recommended through Athchison Road east to River Road in Atchison. Downtown streets will be closed beginning at 4 a.m. each morning.

The new bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8 a.m. each blast day. The closure is expected to last until 10 or 10:30 a.m.
