The Northwest Bearcats pride themselves on being a family. No one is closer to the family than those who live in Maryville.
"I mean it's really exciting just to like be playing in your home town," said Meridee Scott, member of Northwest Missouri State Woman's basketball team.

Maryville High School standout Meridee Scott is excited her Bearcats are playing for a national title.

"Coming from high school and doing so good and just come here and we're doing so well. It's just been like really awesome," said Scott.

She's not seeing the court as much as she did in high school, but she's happy to be along for the ride.

"I think she's just excited to be on a championship team," said Gene Steinmeyer, Head Coach of Northwest Missouri State.

Even though the freshman isn't the star of the show, she still has the Maryville fan base behind her.

"One of the nice things about Maryville people is no one has said, how come you don't play Meridee more," said Steinmeyer.

"I never really expected to but it all really worked out," said Scott.
