Benton's Run Takes them Back to State

Morgan Domann paces the Lady Cardinals with 19 points as Benton makes their first trip to state in seven years.
(INDEPENDENCE, Mo.) Morgan Domann picked a good time for a banner night.

Fueled by a career-high 19 points from the junior, the Benton girls defeated Notre Dame de Sion 48-31 on Saturday to advance to the Class 4 state semifinals for the first time since 2007.

The Lady Cardinals had beaten Notre Dame de Sion by five points back on December 11th, and Saturday's contest proved even tighter through the first half. Knotted 7-7 after the first quarter, Domann paced Benton with nine before halftime for them to grab a 16-11 advantage.

Their lead extended to just six heading into the final frame, but they went on to outscore Notre Dame de Sion 21-10 in the final frame to guarentee themselves another two games this season.

"I really can't describe how great of a feeling this is right now," head coach Brett Goodwin said. "For a group of girls that stepped up in some key moments tonight, it's a great feeling. It's just well-deserved for an outstanding group."

Benton matches up with Dexter, who claimed a 75-31 win over Battle, in the Class 4 semifinals at Mizzou Arena on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
