Hamilton Falls Short in Semifinal at Marceline

The Hornets state title defense ends one game shy of the championship game.
(MARCELINE, Mo.) Hamilton's attempt at back-to-back state titles ended Saturday as Marceline knocked off the defending state champs 42-22.

The Hornets (11-3) jumped on top 15-0 in the first half, but Marceline reeled off 28 consecutive points to take 13-point lead. Hamilton got back within six points late in the third quarter, but the Tigers put it out of reach in the fourth.

Junior running back Kellen Overstreet made his presence felt right away. He got the carry on Hamilton's first offensive play, and ran 61 yards for his first touchdown of the day. Overstreet finished the game with 211 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.

Marceline advances to play next Saturday against the 2012 Class 1 runner-up Valle Catholic.
