Mid-Buch Turns to Another New Coach in 2014

The Dragons are on their third different head coach in three years.
(FAUCETT, Mo.) One word sums up Mid-Buchanan football's coaching carousel in recent years.

"Different," senior quarterback Dalton Robinson said. "New system every year. Some of them have different routes, different philosophies. You just gotta learn it and be prepared for the season."

The situation is different going on the program's third coach in three years, but the team is growing. After five wins combine between 2011 and 2012, the Dragons matched that total under Ron Musser last season.

"Coach Musser taught us how to win, and we're going to carry that into this season. Hopefully we can win some more games and bring that district title here."

After Musser left for conference foe Plattsburg, Mid-Buch hired Tim Cogan.

Cogan -- a West Platte alum -- was on the coaching staff at Staley High School when they won a Class 5 state title in 2011. His next hurdle comes with a team looking to continue its climb up the KCI standings.

"We don't ever say rebuilding. We're not really rebuilding," Cogan said. "We're just going to compete week in and week out and do the best we can and learn and grow as a team."

He looks to build on a program that went 5-5 overall, and 3-4 in conference play, but lost 17 seniors off the squad a year ago.

"We just gotta step up and do our part. Everyone has something they have to overcome on the team, and that's going to be ours," senior fullback/linebacker Brendin Wood said. "We've got plenty of people that are ready to move up and take the season on."

"We lost 17 great seniors last year. It's just time for us to step up, do our jobs, and lead this team," Robinson said.

Change swirls around Mid-Buch entering another football season, but for a group of players that have been together from the beginning, it won't slow them down.

"One last year. We have to work hard. I think these guys here have been working hard to give us a good final season."

Mid-Buchanan opens the season at King City on August 22.
