Benton's Mattice Chooses Maple Woods

Benton senior Dillon Mattice committed to play baseball for Maple Woods next season.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A local baseball standout will keep his career alive beyond high school.

Benton's Dillon Mattice committed to play for the Maple Woods Monarchs after graduation.

Mattice has excelled on the mound and in the field during his time with the Cardinals. As a junior, he posted a 6-2 record with a 2.73 ERA and struck out 39 batters in 59 innings. Mattice also put up a .294 batting average in 2013.

The Benton senior says Monarch coaches have spoke to him about pitching and possibly spending some time at third base and in the outfield.

Maple Woods, a branch of Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, is not new to players from St. Joseph. Former Central Indian Will Carter batted .292 and was second on the team with 29 RBI as a sophomore at Maple Woods.
