(MARYVILLE, Mo.) For the second consecutive game, the Northwest women's basketball team took its opponent into overtime. And for the second straight game, the Bearcats let it slip away in the extra five minute period. Lindenwood topped Northwest (9-13, 6-9 MIAA) 79-74.
The Bearcats trailed the Lions by nine points with less than six minutes to play. They responded by going on a 13-3 run to take a 58-57 lead with 55 seconds left.
Lindenwood responded with a bucket and free throw to take the lead, and Northwest's Ashleigh Nelson hit the game-tying layup with 26 ticks left to send the game to overtime.
The Lions outscored the Bearcats 19-14 in the extra period to hang on for the win.
Ariel Easton led Northwest scoring 21 points on 8-24 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Nelson added 19 points.
Northwest began a four-game win streak on January 30th with a victory over Lindenwood, but they've now lost two in a row heading into their final three contests of the regular season.
Lindenwood men 59, Northwest 70
(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Northwest men's basketball returned to the court for the first time in a week Wednesday and completed the sweep of Lindenwood 70-59.
The Bearcats (19-6, 14-2 MIAA) maintain a one game lead on Central Missouri in the MIAA standings with the victory.
Northwest suffered just its second conference loss on February 12th to Missouri Southern, but didn't let the week between games stop them.
Conner Crooker paced the Bearcats with 17 points on 5-10 shooting, including four three-pointers. Dillon Starzl added 13 points, and Deshaun Cooper had 11.
Lindenwood trailed by 10 points at halftime, and got down by as many as 16 in the second half.
The Bearcats owned the lane outscoring the Lions 20-6 in the paint.
Northwest returns to the road Saturday for a game against rival Missouri Western.
