Marlins Top Royals in Extra Innings

Bruce Chen pitched seven scoreless innings Wednesday.
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) After nine scoreless innings at Kauffman Stadium, Christian Yelich drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth inning giving the Marlins a 1-0 win over the Royals.

Kansas City (62-55) wasted a solid outing from starter Bruce Chen. Chen lowered his ERA to 1.62 going seven innings without allowing a run on three hits and three walks. He also struck out six.

Miami rookie Jose Fernandez was sharp as well matching Chen's stat line of no runs in seven innings, three hits and six strike outs.

Kelvin Herrera took the loss giving up one earned run in one inning of work. Herrera began the frame by hitting Jake Marisnick with a pitch; he then stole second to get into scoring position. Yelich singled to right allowing Marisnick to score the lone run of the game.

Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar went 2-4 at the plate, and finished with have of his teams hits. Billy Butler and George Kottaras had Kansas City's two additional hits in the game.
