Musser Takes on Rebuilding Project at Mid-Buchanan

The former East Buchanan coach will try to lead the Dragons back to the top of the KCI Conference.

(FAUCETT, Mo.) The reason for Ron Musser being back on the sidelines is simple.

"It gets in your blood and I just flat missed it," he said. "It's just that simple. I just wanted to get back in it."

He spent 29 years in Gower at East Buchanan, 16 as head coach, along with three years at the helm of Lathrop.

But after Rndy Williams stepped down after two seasons leading the Dragons, Musser chose to make his comeback in Faucett.

"It feels a little odd. The locker room's are a little bit different. I had a few comments at church from kids who go to East Buch, but they all understand."

He takes on a big rebuilding project, trying to turn around a team that's won just five times in two years.

But the players say they're already feeling the momentum shift.

"You have hree different changes in your high school with head coaches, but I have a good feeling about Coach Musser. He has a lot of wisdom," senior OL/DL Chandler Thompson said.

"It feels a lot better and there's a lot more we've gotten out of it this year," WR/LB Alec Bullimore added. "We're a lot farther than we were last year."

That positive vibe will be needed in a kci conference that boasts a state champion and another district title holder. The Dragons return Dalton Robinson for his second year under center along with All-KCI performers Grant Schottel and Chase Rowland.

But they'll once again need to lean on their seniors who, after changes throughout their high school careers, just want to change the culture before they graduate.

"Something we need to start doing is believing," Thompson said. "That's one thing that we didn't have within the last two years; we didn't believe that we could do it. But I've got a good feeling about this year."

"We're just trying to instill pride in the kids and attitude and commitment," Musser said. "They've bought in so far. We're headed in the right direction."

Mid-Buchanan opens the season at home on Aug. 30th against Orrick.
