Northwest Picked 2nd, Western 11th in Preseason Coaches Poll

Coaches and media selected Fort Hays men's basketball to win the MIAA.
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) A second place finish in the MIAA Tournament a season ago was enough to set the tone for the Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team in 2013.

The MIAA released its preseason media and coaches polls Wednesday with the Bearcats getting picked to be the runner-up once again.

Northwest received six first place votes in the coaches poll and nine in the media rankings.

The Bearcats went 21-10 in head coach Ben McCollum's fourth season, and were stopped in the MIAA Championship game by Central Missouri.

The coaches picked Missouri Western to finish 11th, and 12th by the media.

Brett Weiberg enters his first year leading the Griffons. He inherits a team that finished 10-17 last season, and brings back four seniors from the squad.

Fort Hays is at the top of both preseason rankings. The Tigers went 20-8 in 2012-2013, but got knocked out of the MIAA Tournament by Northwest and missed the NCAA Tournament.
