The Bearcats trailed by nine points with less than seven minutes left, but made a charge. Northwest went on an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to one, but couldn't get any closer.

In three of Northwest's four losses, the Bearcats blew double digit leads. So with Pittsburg State in Maryville Thursday to open MIAA play, they didn't let another one get away. Northwest beat Pitt 75-59 to improve its record to 5-4 overall, and 1-0 in the MIAA.

The Bearcats opened up a 16-point lead with 10:46 left in the game, and didn't let the Gorillas get back within eight the rest of the way.

Sophomore Conner Crooker led Northwest shooting 6-9 from three-point range and finished with 27 points. Dillon Starzl added 15 points and eight rebounds.

The men's and women's basketball teams will be at home again Saturday for contests against Emporia State.
