Royals Stumble in Series Finale

Miguel Cabrera drives in three more runs in 6-3 victory over Kansas City.
(DETROIT) Miguel Cabrera picked up right where he left off after a walk-off home run Saturday night.
 
The Tigers third baseman homered in his first at-bat off Bruce Chen and finished with three RBI as Detroit defeated the Royals 6-3 on Sunday.

Kansas City (64-59) is knocked back to 8.5 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central with just two wins in the five-game series.

Chen (5-1) struggled through 5 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits in his first defeat since being reinserted into the starting rotation.

Detroit (73-51) scored the first six runs of the game, three of which came off Cabrera's bat. He followed his first inning two-run shot with an RBI single in the third.

Torii Hunter, Brayan Pena, and Ramon Santiao also drove in runs.

Kansas City made it interesting late in the game, scoring twice in the seventh frame thanks to hits from Salvador Perez and Emilio Banifacio. Billy Butler added his 12th homer of the year to make it 6-3 in the ninth.

Max Scherzer (18-1) held the Royals to two runs off five hits through eight innings.

Kansas City is back home Tuesday to host the White Sox.
