Wainright Strikes Out 11 in Cardinals Win

St. Louis' ace wins for the first time in five starts as the Cardinals take series over Chicago.
(CHICAGO) The Cardinals ace had his mind on another gem in Sunday's series finale.

Adam Wainright (14-7) struck out 11 batters and gave up just one run through seven innings in a 6-1 win over the Cubs. It's the first win for Wainright in five starts.

The St. Louis (71-52) bats backed up the starter with early run supports as they plated three runs in the second inning. Jon Jay drove in Yadier Molina with a double before Matt Carpenter plated a pair with a single to center.

Jay picked up four RBI, capped by a three-run homer in the seventh.

Chicago (53-70) starter Edwin Jackson tossed six innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three batters.

Shelby Miller takes the hill Monday as the Cardinals begin a three-game series in Milwaukee.
