Griffons Complete Sweep of Pittsburg State

Missouri Western runs their winning streak to eight with 1-0 and 8-3 victories on Saturday.
(ST. JOSEPH) Missouri Western completed a four-game sweep of Pittsburg State on Saturday, claiming 1-0 and 8-3 wins in the second doubleheader between the two.

It's the eight straight win for the Griffons, who sit third in the MIAA standings with six games left before the conference tournament.

Jake Jones (5-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball in the start, striking out four Gorillas along the way.

The lone run came when David Chew led off the fourth with a triple. Jeremy Monty popped out to left, giving Chew the go-ahead to score.

PSU (15-26, 10-12) threatened with a runner on first and second in the seventh and final inning, but Dylan Koch snagged a Derek Hackney blooper to end the game.

Mason Queen struck out one and allowed one hit over the final 1 1/3 frames to record his third save.

Mark Spreckels (3-0) was as efficient in Game 2, keeping the Gorillas off the board until the eighth inning. By then, MWSU (23-14, 19-11) had built a six-run advantage.

The start was pulled with no outs in the eighth after being tagged with two runs. He gave up six hits and three walks while striking out a pair.

Hunter Weiss led the Griffons with three runs driven in, while Trevor LaHonta picked up two more RBI.
