Griffons Drop a Pair in Warrensburg

The Central Missouri men's and women's basketball teams beat Missouri Western Wednesday night.

Missouri Western gave Central Missouri a battle Wednesday night, but the eighth-ranked Jennies were able to pull out a 71-65 win. The Griffons never trailed by more than 12, and were within two possessions of UCM with 34 seconds left. Junior forward Quenisha Lockett led Western with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but she fouled out with 11 minutes left in the game. The Griffs out-rebounded the Jennies 42-32, and had 14 second chance points. Central Missouri shot 48-percent from the field and led by 11 points with 2:24 left. Missouri Western cut the deficit to six within a minute, but couldn't finish closing the gap. The Griffs have now lost three in a row.

Missouri Western men 63, Central Missouri 81

The Griffons dropped to 0-6 on the road tonight in an 81-63 loss at the University of Central Missouri. Western trailed by just four points with 5:09 left in the game, but the Mules went on a 21-7 run to seal the victory. Ryan Devers led the Griffs with 16 points on 5-10 shooting. Kalvin Balque added 15, and Cortrez Colbert had 13 points. Central Missouri junior -- and Smithville native -- Dillon Deck posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Charles Hammork also scored 20 points. Missouri Western will return home Saturday to face Southwest Baptist.
